Rail-fan Pictures at North Station

Boston has two main stations because when the railroads were building their lines into the city the taxi and street railways banded together and got a ban keeping the railroads from going through the city. They were also not allowed to go around the city. This ban is still in place and results in a higher revenue for the taxis and buses.

Driving directions to North Station from South Station

  • Head north on Atlantic Ave toward Essex St, 0.8 mi
  • Turn right onto Atlantic Ave/Mercantile St, Continue to follow Atlantic Ave, 0.2 mi
  • Continue onto Commercial Street, 0.6 mi
  • Commercial Street turns slightly right and becomes Causeway St, 0.2 mi
  • Turn right onto Legends Way, North station is 220 ft down
